Ace, catch them quick, they RAMMED the Barfly last night...
Electric Six were top last night, they're like a big rock caberet Village People, ace... Sounds a bit dismissive doesn't it, sorry... Not the campness of the Village People, just that there is one there for everyone - there's the one who's like Neil Young, the one who looks like Jim Reid, the one who looks like [come back and fill the names in later when I've read a review by someone who'd drunk less], and so on...
The singer is particularly ace, a cross between Brian Johnson and Rob Halford. Had to leave the room after they'd played the current single as it was RAMMED, it's a bit of a treat to see hot bands in tiny venues like the Barfly.
Crimea are brilliant too, much different to what I expected... I never saw The Crocketts, but thought they'd be sort of noisy jangly indie, like the one single "Cars and Football" I have... They were more like say Pavement though, crossed with someone more accessible indie girl pop like Placebo or the Stereophonics.
Here's the rest of the Electric Six forthcoming dates...
Manchester Night and Day (24th Oct)
Glasgow, Nice and Sleazy (25th)
Nottingham Social (26th)
London Trash (28th)
New York Bowery Ballroom (31st)
You can get tickets for some of those UK shows here... That NY show is part of the CMJ festival (but you'll be at The Darkness' gig won't you?) and you can't normally get Trash tix in advance, try winning them off XFM...

A big show at Spitz, Spitalfields Market, tomorrow night...
If you're not going to Kylie Minogue, Soft Cell, Westlife, or any of the other sold out extravaganzae in the capital, then I've got a lovely selection box of indie pop for you tomorrow. If you're near to East London.
There are four bands play tomorrow night at the sit-down-TASTIC Spitz, in Spitalfields Market, East London.
Tompaulin (always seem to be compared to Belle and Sebastian, but this press release mentions THE STOOGES, have I got the right band?), Airport Girl, Finlay and Tempertwig will be entertaining the masses, from 8pm.
Don't be late, it's laid out in a caberete stylee, and there are probably already people camped outside to get the best tables.
See you at the bar...

Anthony Reynolds (of Jack) Neil-Diamonded his way through a variety of old and new material at Spitz last night...
After an apprehensive start for we, the punters, with no support, and tables set up caberet style around the stage, Anthony and his band hit the stage. There is more than a hint of David Gedge about his appearance, will the new Jacques material be strangled vocals about loves lost?
No. He's instantly Neil-Diamonding his way through "London Loves You" (from the new album), and it's clear that he can carry this off without the rest of the band. And now "a song about fellatio" - "This Is What You Do", also from the new long player...
A couple more numbers and he's joined by JOHN HEGLEY! Or is it (as billed) Kirk Lake? Kirk Hammet? To be honest it might as well be Kurt Cobain, it's time for a toilet break, this is as close to an intermission as we'll get.
"Dress You In Mourning" sounds a bit too plinky plonky, we're missing the band for the first time. To rub salt into this, Anthony dedicates the song to "absent friends... and members of Jack, except [3 names I didn't catch]" - what's that all about?
An encore, of Anthony solo, and two Jack numbers - 3 O'Clock In The Morning and F.U. are very welcome, and a rendition of "Wherever I Lay My Hat That's My Home" rounds the gig off to the delight of the crowd.
Jack are releasing a new album, and Jacques release "To Stars" in May.
