Rabbits and finches

Walk home from work today wasn't so dark, not pitch black anyway, not sure if that's the position of the moon or something, or that it's really getting lighter. We went to the office at the weekend, so I could show Clare where it was, and we saw a rabbit, or maybe a hare, as well as the usual sheep. This morning I saw a flock of brightly coloured finches too. Proper countryside, lovely.

Weekend was a full round of pubbing and things, down The Harbour on Saturday night, good to see it getting busier again, and Chambers quiz on Sunday. A rare night out indeed! Thought we might have done OK in the quiz, and we did come third out of lots and lots, but we were still twelve points or so behind the winner.

I'm being amused every day at the moment by a huge poster for "Carling 2%" outside Folkestone train station, with the slogan "the swift one at lunch pint". It reminds me (every time) of Al Murray being a guest on the morning show on , so back when I lived in London, in I think. sponsor absolutely everything, and they were sponsoring something on the show, maybe giving out tents in time for Reading festival or something. Al Murray, in character said "Carling, that's a drinking and driving lager", and was hurriedly hushed up by the host. Well it amuses me. We used to have to pussyfoot around them in a previous job of mine too.

Speaking of weak beer though, I heard a rumour that Old Speckled Hen had been enweakened by the brewery. It always was a bit of a headbanger, but this might explain why I wasn't very drunk on Saturday, despite drinking 'Hen in The Ship. I was less drunk than my two companions, who insisted on a kebab on the way home anyway, disgraceful...

Leas Cliff Hall 6.02 bar music child friendly venue ticketmaster mighty boosh weekend tv comedy :: [comment] :: [delete]

Super weekend, starting with The Mighty Boosh at the LCH, funny, good, we felt a bit old though, they do attract a young audience, lots of whom were dressed up. I maybe enjoyed the show a bit more than my companions, though it did feel a bit like a cobbled together string of all the funny characters from the show. It felt like that because it was that, like the TV show and the radio show before it. A few drinks after this in The Clifton, and then home to our massive telly - sorry no pictures of the telly yet, not done much computering over the weekend.

Slightly sleepless night, but only slightly. I realised quite late on that I'd left my bag in the bro-in-law's car, and he'd left his car by the Leas Cliff Hall. Every week The Herald seems to be full of car crime, because nothing else happens in the area, but it's a good feeling to know that no-one had put his side window in.

Saturday saw a haircut, then a bus ride to The Jackdaw for a splendid lunch, slightly hungover, but the food there sorted that out. Made a reservation for next weekend when the family are visiting, looking forward to that. Shopped a bit on our return, and achieved a few more of our planned chores; got a new office chair, booked someone to fit some swish new blinds in the flat, and something else that we STILL can't remember - we had a mental list of five items to tick off. Cooked a mighty Mexican feast for tea (nearly lost a thumb in preparation of a particularly tricky avocado though, necessitating a pale sitting down for a while for me, while Clare finished everything off. Played some cards and watched , the new one. It's got in it, but apart from that I'm not sure what it adds to the other one. I expect we'd spot it right away if we watched the older one on the new screen, really spotting the limitations in older TV recordings. Whoever would have thought that shows like Auf Wiedersehen Pet would look primitive???

Sunday saw a bit of driving around, yet another trip to the municipal recycling centre, either we're too good at recycling or we generate too much rubbish. Most of it was packing from the new stuff we've bought, it wasn't all beer cans.

Ooh, One step from a Javascript pool table... it's an interesting demo of physical effects on BALLS, all done in JS and DHTML I think. In other footnotes, KISS perfume on the way, and some sick part of me is enjoying that Dick Cheney shot a 78 year old chum, hmm yeah accidentally. Guns don't kill people, etc.

Haircut, dinner reservation, chair, blinds, I'm sure there was another one.

Shanel's Brasserie 5.07 restaurant food vegetarian closed :: [comment] :: [delete]

Delighted to see that a phoenix has risen from the flames of , and it's not a kentucky fried one either. Popped into on Saturday for some much needed sustenance on a bank holiday weekend. We were warmly greeted and successfully seated by one of the owners, and immediately treated to bread rolls and nibbles, olives, pickles and biscuit type things.

We skipped starters (apart from the aforementoned platter) to leave room fordesserts, so straight to the mains. I plumped for the roasted vegetables and my companions chose steaks, well done. Possibly there was a mixup as a result of staff shortages, but it seemsthere was no alternative to the creamy potato side, so my roast veg (seemingly sauteed in wine and herbs) were accompanied only by more veg. Hopefully this will be fixed as we are sure to return.

Puds were simple but tasty, poached pear (singular) for me and cheesecake for the lady. With a couple of drinks each the bill came to less than 20 pounds a head, which is not cheap, but not bad. The welcome was warm, and we hope to return and test the winelist as soon as...
