- 1993 Radiohead @ The Penny Theatre (Tue 26 Jan 1993)
Conflicting reports, may have been the 6th of Jan... Part of the "Anyone Can Play Guitar" tour
[leave a comment]- Expose ClubLooking for details of the Expose Club, Canterbury... Radiohead played there, if the many Radiohead gigography sites are to be trusted, but I suspect that one mistake in any of them would have been copied across the whole lot... The date in question is 26th Jan 1993... Was it the name of a night at an established venue like Penny Theatre? Or at the uni? I know Radiohead played Canterbury Uni in 1992, supporting the Frank and Walters but this is a different show... Anyone help? On a barely re -
- Expose Club = Penny TheatreFrom today's discussion on mrgig.com: PuddingMushroom says "I think they played the Penny Theatre", Mikos says "they definitely played the Penny", and then we're diverted into other bands that played (The Cranberries and Reef (twice) Ash, Skunk Anansie, Soundgarden, Therapy? and Babylon Zoo) before Oozye contributes: "yeah it true i played at penny theatre the week after RADIOHEAD" so that's good enough for me... UPDATE: And a final official confirmation here. Cheers! -
- 1993 Radiohead @ The Joiners (Thu 18 Feb 1993)
I was not at this Radiohead gig, it's not meant to be showing up in my gigography...
[leave a comment]- Expose ClubRadiohead did play the Penny Theatre in Jan 1993, I promoted it, it was the last ever Exposé night. It was their first ever sell out gig outside of London or Oxford and was rammed to the rafters (we had over 300 people in there). They covered Rhinestone Cowboy as an encore, which I believe they used to do early on but hadn’t done for years (and as far as I am aware) haven’t done since. I have a tape of the gig recorded from the mixing desk. Bands who also played the Penny included The Cranberr - Roger

Secret thank you thing as "Jammy Little Devils" to make up for cancelling a gig at Portsmouth Guildhall
[leave a comment]- 1980s soft rockFrom the UK no less! Was talking about Little Angels with a chum at work today, he remembers them playing Folkestone (on their way up) and I saw them in Portsmouth (on their way back down), here's a video: I have this on vinyl somewhere, though obviously none of it is worth a bean these days. Yes you whipper-snappers, people in the UK were making this girlish racket even in the '80s and '90s. One of Little Angels went on to be in the Younger Younger 28s. I've updated Folkestone gig histor -

- The Stranglers @ Leas Cliff HallThe Stranglers played Leas Cliff Hall this day in 1993. Another not quite so fascinating slice of Folkestone Rock History... Transferring all this rock history lark to folkestonegerald.com/ and folkestonegerald.com/1972/ and so on... -

- Weekend reportSuper weekend, starting with The Mighty Boosh at the LCH, funny, good, we felt a bit old though, they do attract a young audience, lots of whom were dressed up. I maybe enjoyed the show a bit more than my companions, though it did feel a bit like a cobbled together string of all the funny characters from the show. It felt like that because it was that, like the TV show and the radio show before it. A few drinks after this in The Clifton, and then home to our massive telly - sorry no pictures of -
