That food looks ridiculous

How bizarre to have a coronation instead of an election to decide our new prime minister. I'm not sure if Gordon Brown will make a good / bad / better / worse prime minister, but it doesn't feel right to have him ushered in in this way, it's only going to cause resentment among voters when it comes to the next election. This means the Conservatives are likely to walk it, doesn't it? I am sure that would be A Bad Thing.
On the pllus side, in the time it's taken me to figure out how to reset the IPOD without iTunes being able to see it, it's sorted itself out and is talking to the computer again.

Heyup, Pauly. I vote for a party, or a consituency MP, not for the party leader. While I'm concerned that there is no leadership election in the Labour party this time, I'm not sure if that will put of any more voters than those already disillusioned. A Tory government will be *rubbish*, mind,
Anyway, for some reason Celebdaq came up in discussion at work yesterday, which led me to Wiki, which led me here. How the hell are you, dude? S'been ages.

I'm good thankyou, and you? I have left London and all that behind me now, living and working by the seaside in Kent.
pauly :: 17 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
I'm pretty fine, ta. Proud owner of an actual mortgage and I'm now doing a job I enjoy and everything. Living by the sea sounds great, I've always wanted Leeds to somehow get coastal.
So what's new?
Tom. From Leeds. :: 17 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
Leeds after global warming sea levels...
Lots is new since I last saw you, mostly including getting married, moving to Folkestone, and surviving an earthquake. I too am mortgaged up, should have done it a long time ago instead of all that gadding about in London, I'm going to be about a thousand before it's all paid off... Thinking of getting a second one now, it's probably a really bad time to do that though.
Sorry I ran off yesterday, TV to watch and that.

Pontefract always sounded like it should be by the sea anyroad.
Congratulations! That's top news.
Ah, I'm not worrying about paying mine off, I'll no doubt have to work till I'm 90 anyway. Speaking of which, of to Lyon tomorrow for a conference. A database conference. Still, get's me out the house...
Tom. From Leeds. :: 18 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
is it tomorrow though, as in saturday?
I didn't mean to embed that picture like that and have you guess what i'd been up to, it was just meant to be a link to the photo album, yeah we got married.
Have you given up on the music now then?
pauly :: 18 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
it actually doesn't start until Sunday evening. And by start I mean a great big poncey gala dinner. My boss is quite cool, he suggested going tomorrow so we can have Saturday night out in Lyon. On the company.
Yeah, I'm not doing anything musically. I got all the software to start doing stuff on my own, but learning it all was too much like being at work, so I've not bothered.
Tom. From Leeds. :: 18 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
Oh.
I didn't read that as Lyon first time round, that's cool, have a good time.
You should get a Mac if you are in the money now, Garage Band is supposed to be really good, even I could make a tune on it.
I'm in, on my own, making my tea while Clare is out down the pub with old work friends. Did I sign the wrong bit of the wedding contract or what? Actually I'm trying to make a home web server out of broken bits.

I have to get up at stupid o'clock tomorrow, so there. I'm not even drinking beer or anything, such is my dedication.
Mac schmac. I'm too bone idle to learn anything different. And these new 5ps are too fiddly.
40 years of feminism, mate, that's what it is. Clare's doing ok then, I trust?
Tom. From Leeds. :: 18 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
She still works in London, on the quarter past seven train in the mornings, and I have her tea on the table when she gets in at night. She's working for the HHA which she really likes.
I recently started using a mac, still on a PC at home, but they're all mac at work, and it's brilliant. It's this OSX that's turned it around, it's got all the smooth corners of a mac, but it's a unix box underneath. There's no learning to be done, they just work.
I am drinking beer.

That HHA thing looks cool, I'm not so sure about a Folkstone to London commute, mind. I now work a 15 minute bus ride from my house. It's fantastic.
Actually, do you remember my mate Allan? His girlfriend works or did work for English Heritage. Her and Clare have probably battled over historic house funding.
Curse you and your beer!

out and about. We'd always say hello, but I expect towards the end he had no idea who I was.
I did the Folkestone to Londond commute for about eighteen months, it was rubbish, took about two hours including faffing about at either end, but it did give me time to sit down, sleep, read, watch TV on the little computer, etc. Now I'm only ten mins away from work.
Are you on facebook? Don't lie, everyone is, I am.
The Wedding Present just came on my party shuffle (some party, me, beer and a plate of chilli), computer knows there is a Yorkshireman on the blog.

I do not miss the commute to York at all. Despite the reading and music listening and leching at lovely business type ladies at the station.
I don't even know what facebook is. I've got a myspace thing, but there's nowt on it, I only got the account to leave rude messages on my mate's band's site. Got flikr: flickr.com/photos/78892004@N00/

I just got some rosemary too.
Time to turn the computer off now I think, have a good time in Lyon, speak again next week.
pauly :: 18 May :: 2007 :: Comment / reply
Though I doubt you'll be too impressed, being vegan and that.
Lyon was great, had to miss a day cos the flight got cancelled, which was annoying, but I did get the card of a lovely lady from Ernst & Young. Now to bring up the courage to email her...

A nice contrast to all the pies though.
We're off to Michael Caines' today, in Canterbury (not Michael Caine's) Michael Caines'. I was expecting it to be quite fancy, but now if I don't at least get a syringein my dinner I'll be disappointed...

Over to you, discussion about anything local, but please be considerate... Folkestone on TV, Kent gigs, Find a flatmate, rent a room, property queries, current news, what's new, local events, for sale, local services, what I like about Folkestone, ask questions, offer advice, plug yourself... the more it's used the more useful a resource it will become. If you want a gig listed click here to add it (fixed now!), or just click here to post a message...
