Might be too late, thanks for the offer of help with Coolinge Road though
Home
Had a great weekend in Folkestone, only a few tiny disappointments. First, a visit to the Nostalgia Bar, a fifties theme restaurant and bar in what was The Front down Folkestone Harbour. No sign of the promised Kylie Minogue tribute, an oppressive air and a poor range of drinks meant not stopping long, so we headed up to Chambers. The football must have been a full day of drinking for some people, and while walking up the Old High Street we were harassed by drunks and had a glass thrown at us. Not very creative behaviour in the Creative Quarter, it was like being back in Stoke Newington for a few unpleasant minutes. No sign of The Quarter magazine in any of the bars, is it still going? Chambers was good, if a bit quieter than usual. It really does stand out among the crap bars in the area.
Moved a few bits of funiture into The Flat, and had lunch in Kalala (see Folkestone restaurants) and now I'm back in London, and it's still hot.

Sorry I realise this is a bit old now but I'm just writing to reassure you that not only does The Quarter magazine still exist, but we keep a close eye on this website to find out what's happening (since nobody actually seems to tell us!).
I'm sorry you couldn't find a copy when you came down, it was probably nearing the end of the month when they start to get a bit thin on the ground. To find out where to get a copy check www.thequarter.org.uk (although you can't actually read the magazine online!).
Thanks for your interest.

Again a bit late...
Yep Folkestone is crap for bars and cafes. Also, the Quarter ceased in August 2005 unfortunately because they all needed to make a living and it was mainly self funded. However, should you want a good coffee, better than Chambers, then try Sweet Rendezvous on Rendezvous Street (opposite Wetherspoons), which is run by 2 poles who used to work in The Spence in Stoke Newington, funnily enough and where I used to live for a couple of years. They make all their own bread, on the day, and cakes with no additives and preservatives, and certainly not de-frosted like Luca's on Guildhall Street. Plus, the coffee is proper.Well it isn't Tchibo thats for sure. Things will improve, once the Foster Partners Harbour Development goes ahead, but not if the seafront does.Aaaah...I've just seen you moved to Folkestone. So you will probably know all that.

Have been in that cafe, it is nice, I didn't realise the Stoke Newington connection, I will call in there and say hi.

Hello, my husband and I are moving down to Folkestone and looking for a house- wondered what your thoughts are on Coolinge Road? We quite liked Folkestone West station areas too but a bit concerned you're a bit left out of things there. The West End seems like everything has been turned into flats already.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you!

not sure "Stunt Girl" has been back to the site since that day... Still anyone searching for Coolinge Road ought to come across these messages - guessing that's how you got here?

The location is handy for the station and for town and things though by the looks, I'm sure it's fine. Sorry not to be more help!
There's a road that's about 2 streets nearer to town that I really like.

You realise that message was originally posted last year, and not this year?
Glad that you check out this site (whether that's clarkeology.com/blog or folkestonegerald.com), I hope you realise that I don't have an inside track on what's going on either, I'm not affilliated with any of the venues listed here, this is just a hobby too.
If you want event listings for the new mag, best pick them up from folkestonegerald.com/gigs/.

Over to you, discussion about anything local, but please be considerate... Folkestone on TV, Kent gigs, Find a flatmate, rent a room, property queries, current news, what's new, local events, for sale, local services, what I like about Folkestone, ask questions, offer advice, plug yourself... the more it's used the more useful a resource it will become. If you want a gig listed click here to add it (fixed now!), or just click here to post a message...
