Fat balls

What's been eating my fat balls?
I bought some bird food in the bad weather, left one of the fat balls out on the tray in the snow, and it completely vanished... something must have picked it up and taken the whole thing away, but what? It was a small one, could have been a big bird, but I suspect it was something more rat-like. This time, I hung the fat ball on a hook on the fence, so about five feet off the ground. This time the bag was gnawed open and the ball taken, overnight I think. I will try and set a camera on it. I really hope it is a squirrel, but we've not seen any in the garden yet.
