Book about him signed by the authors. Not my Harry Clarke, but Clare's artist great grand-uncle.
Here is a signed copy of Strangest Genius, the relatively new book about Harry Clarke. Not signed by him though of course, but by the authors Lucy Costigan and Michael Cullen
The book, "Strangest Genius: The stained glass of Harry Clarke", by Lucy Costigan and Michael Cullen is being offered here, signed by both authors. This is a new book, never used, in pristine condition. Published by The History Press, Dublin, May 2010 (ISBN: 9781845889715; 320 pages, full colour images throughout).
This book was short listed for Best Irish Book of 2010, in the Irish Book of the Year Awards.
Harry Clarke (1889-1931) created spectacular stained-glass windows for churches and private patrons in Ireland, England, the United States and Australia. Born in Dublin in 1889, Clarke developed a unique style and technique in stained glass that combined deep rich colours with beautiful, elongated figures that exuded poise and grace. His deep blues and ruby reds became the hallmark of his work. Clarke is considered to rank among the masters of stained glass, with Tiffany, Burne-Jones and the medieval colourists.
"Strangest Genius: the stained glass of Harry Clarke" is a sumptuous, hard-backed, full-colour book that, for the first time, depicts all of Harry Clarke's stained glass windows and panels in Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. Photographer, Michael Cullen (irishphoto.org), travelled all over the English-speaking world taking over 50,000 photographs of Harry Clarke's spectacular windows. Author, Lucy Costigan (lucycostigan.com), selected the top 1,000 images to use as reference for her description and interpretation of the windows, along with Clarke's correspondence at the National Library of Ireland, and the Studios' files at Trinity College Dublin. The book contains a biography of Clarke, his styles and influences, the art and craft of stained glass as well as a complete geographical catalogue of his stained glass work.
