I do not think she came from Winterton Stoke, but am almost certain it was Winterbourne Stoke. She would have been baptised on 3 July 1853 and would have been the daughter of Frederick & Ruth. Frederick was my Great x 2 grandfather's brother.

Hi "Cousin" Bazzer.
Got your message and can give you Matilda's ancestry back to about 1750 in the village of Chitterne in Wilts. The document runs into many pages so cannot be sent here, but affirms we are indeed related.
So get back to me on jzg@bigfoot.com.
In addition, put your engine on "search" and see my submission under "Grants of Chitterne."

Hi Roy,
Winterton Stoke was on the 1881 census entry, so I assumed it was correct. I have just checked the 1891 entry and guess what! it says Winterbourne.Matilda is my father's grandmother. These are the marriage details in the church register:
April 12 1873 John Samways 26 & Matilda Grant 25. Signed by both fathers Thomas Samways & Frederick Grant in the presence of x the mark of George Grant & signed by Elizabeth Watkins. So! we might be related. Have you got any more infomation to share?
Regards
Bazzer
