Got the IPOD to talk to the iMac last night! But still not completely there... the IPOD mounts as a drive just fine, but iTunes still won't communicate with it. Found one application PodUtil that will recognise this IPOD, and the tracks on it, but that's only for downloading from IPOD to computer... Found another package that sounds good, that I can't remember the name of right now, it allows for free copying of tracks on the IPOD under OS9.2, but it says it needs iTunes 2.03 present to run, and then it does something that breaks iTunes, and then it crashes... I have managed to track down iTunes 2.04, but OH NO, that's not good enough... Have tried a bundle of extension-disabling, which is The Way To Do Things on a Mac, but I'm out of my depth really.

Obviously there are loads of other apps out there, but they all seem to require OSX, so it looks like I'll have to install that eventually. Last thing to try is use PodUtil to drag the tracks off the IPOD (if there's disk space) and then format it and start again. Frightening stuff though...

Got the carpet fitter booked in now, we'll have this flat looking ship-shape in no time.

get osx on it!

osx will sort out all these problems. if you cant get hold of that, download and install linux (yellowdog or debian) - it'll run pretty nicely on an imac.

Will do

I think there are still some issues with it being partly "locked down", I don't know Macs, so I don't know what sort of admin functions there are hidden away from the user account that's on there... I have the install disks for OS9.2 so thought I'd reinstall that, give me a clean slate to play with, but it's having NONE OF IT, says "can't restore that disk, it's your start up disk", even if I boot off the CD... lots more to learn still.

Are you suggesting I PAY for an operating system? Putting Linux on is one option, but I want to learn Mac things, so would kind of be defeating the object of getting this thing.

Over to you, discussion about anything local, but please be considerate... Folkestone on TV, Kent gigs, Find a flatmate, rent a room, property queries, current news, what's new, local events, for sale, local services, what I like about Folkestone, ask questions, offer advice, plug yourself... the more it's used the more useful a resource it will become. If you want a gig listed click here to add it (fixed now!), or just click here to post a message...
