Seafront casino plans

AN application has been submitted for a casino for Shepway.

The Government's casino advisory panel welcomed proposals from local authorities for regional, large or smaller venues, and on Friday, Shepway District Council put its case for a large casino for the seafront area of Folkestone.

The panel said it would be particularly interested in areas of deprivation, and the district council said the job opportunities and increase in visitors would be of great benefit to the area.

A decision is not expected before the autumn.

This is part of my site The 'Gerald that I built in a frenzy of excitement when I first moved to Folkestone sometime in '04. I'd been a frequent visitor for a few years previous to that but I am technically one of those DFLs you get now. The site was updated more frequently with a gig calendar and voting for favourite venues and things, and I know it was a handy reference for others who were thinking of moving to the area. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though only a couple of miles) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is now becoming the exciting place we knew it was just about to. I am not Gerald BTW, this comes from the name of a fake newspaper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local newspaper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great aren't they? Do contact me if you have anything to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
