My gigography

Getting there with my gigography now, a list of every gig I've been to, from 1987 up to last year. It's a natural progression from my Best Gigs Ever post. Well that's the theory, but there's A LOT missing. I have chucked in details from the big bag of old gig tickets that I've had since I've been in London, but there's not much from before that - got to get a box of old concert tickets and things from Mum and Dad's loft. Also got a bundle of gaps regarding bands seen at festivals, they'll probably stay missing, it's so hard to remember, and there's a stack missing where I've lost tickets or never had them, most of the guestlist actions during my NME and Popex years and that. SO, if you were at a gig, and so was I, and you can remember anything about it please post details up here to remind me... Yeah I know it's a bit nerdy, let's let that slide though, I'm having fun remembering these things. At least I've not started scanning the tickets in yet. That's coming later...

My first gig was in 1987, from then until 1990 it was mostly rock, either around Portsmouth or on trips up to London. Then in 1991 things got more indie, and in 1994 things really seemed to kick off. In 1996 I moved to London (first Waterloo, then Putney in 1998, Ealing in 1999, New Cross in 2000, and Stoke Newington in 2003) and in 2005 I moved back out again, to Folkestone (so that's where the list slows down again). Click on one of those years to see the gigs from that year, though you're more likely to have arrived at those pages than this by googling for gigography...

LOTS missing, it's surprising how many gigs I remember I can find no mention of online. Lots of Under Neath What, Atom Seed and David Devant (favourite bands of various times) to hopefully be unearthed, and what of the classic Supergrass at South Parade Pier? It's documented nowhere. This could turn into an valuable archive...

See links on individual pages to my Folkestone gig history.

The Wedgewood Rooms music venue club bar booze comedy real ale

The Cabaret nights at the Wedgewood Room firstly sponsored by Wild Turkey and then by Rolling Rock or was it the other way around were huge, extremely long but great nights of entertainment. The Raymond and Mr Timpkins Revue cut their comedy teeth there and appeared in one form or another on each of the nights. Memorable were Herbie Flowers and his band. Sam Brown. Tony Hadley still wet from the shower and the hard work involved in setting up two separate stages to ensure the night flowed and the great sets that Kath and her chums came up with and built from not a lot. Great nights. Great nights.

swinging from the lampshades and things. Also I remember a guy banging nails into his face.

I had a lot of good times at the Wedgewood Rooms.

Who're you then / what was your connection? I used to go to the venue quite a bit between about 1993 and 1997 and help out at the PVC gigs, and do a fanzine that I'd hand out called OUT...

My 19th birthday gig !!!

Deeeee-lite were a bit shite as I remember. The Revolting Cocks were better at the Astoria. Remember the strippers and you stage diving whilst I stood at the back in agony for some reason. Nirvana at the Hummingbird, now called the Academy and not as good. We also Ned's at Reading University at some point, and also got in free to see Iron Maiden in Hammersmith in 1990 I think. Saw Jonathon King outside. Whatever happened to him ?

Bon Jovi rule, actually

Where was that, Wembley? Never actually seen them myself. I think I've probably been to many worse gigs than that Take That show, and seen many less cool bands... trying to track down the date of a Shakin' Stevens gig right now...

Over to you, discussion about anything local, but please be considerate... Folkestone on TV, Kent gigs, Find a flatmate, rent a room, property queries, current news, what's new, local events, for sale, local services, what I like about Folkestone, ask questions, offer advice, plug yourself... the more it's used the more useful a resource it will become. If you want a gig listed click here to add it (fixed now!), or just click here to post a message...
