RE: John Thomas Clarke
Home
Hi! My name is Eileen, nee Clarke and I live in Sydney, Australia, having grown up in New Zealand. My Great-Grandfather, John Thomas Clarke was a remittance man - sent from England to the antipodes to preserve the good name of his family! (We don't know what he did!) He would have been born approximately mid 1800's and his children, to my G Grandma, at least, were born in the 1880's & 90's.
He first came to Australia, then on to New Zealand where many of his descendants live. He is elusive, regarding any official info, and I haven't been able to find much paperwork on him at all. Family history has it that his brother was Sir Edward Clarke QC, Solicitor General of England at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. If that is correct, his father was Job Guy Clarke, goldsmith & jeweller of the "Cook's Guild" in London.
Do any of you have links to this family? Any help would be appreciated!

Over to you, discussion about anything local, but please be considerate... Folkestone on TV, Kent gigs, Find a flatmate, rent a room, property queries, current news, what's new, local events, for sale, local services, what I like about Folkestone, ask questions, offer advice, plug yourself... the more it's used the more useful a resource it will become. If you want a gig listed click here to add it (fixed now!), or just click here to post a message...
