Got my first network alert popup today, as I left the wlan bit turned on on the Pocket PC... 243 moving too fast to investigate, though the network name was the full street address so it won't be hard to find again...
Popped in to Chambers beer fest Friday, not busy at all, either the presence of sicknote blues, or a lack of publicity... What, didn't everyone read about it here? Had a couple of pints and they must have gone to our heads as we then decided to go to .Wards where it was quiet and we could chat. Woken in the night again by a fox triggering the security light, and then at about 9 by a chapter of hell's angels. Or so it sounded, was just the neighbour's ancient petrol motor. Sausage sammidges for breakfast and then off to pick up my new toy, a Raleigh Chopper. It's red, it's shiny, and it's far too small for an adult and I look a bit of a wanker on it i'm sure, but it's quite fun on flat ground, wouldn't fancy it up a hill. The new twist grip gears are far more sensible, though I'm having trouble adjusting the two part saddle.
Monged round Canterbury in the afternoon, then headed to Shanel's Brasserie for dinner, review to follow. Everyone wussed out sick of a proper night out on the large, just one slightly off pint of Bass in The Clifton and then home. This was the only point when I missed the reading festival.
Sunday we made more of the day goi to goodnestone gardens, an HHA member, then back to do the beer festival proper. They'd run out of most things by this point so i'm guessing it was a success, though it still wasn't busy.
Oh, and the mice are back.

There's another beer festival at Chambers over the bank holiday weekend, ace! The last one in May was a roaring success, don't miss out. Plenty of cider on tap too, get your drinking trousers ready... live bands on each night including Sick Note Blues on the Friday. But I think we'll still go anyway.
The brews lined up so far are Wight Spirit, Salopian Lemon Dream, Black Zac, Cherry Bomb, Radgie Gadgie, Chancellor's Revenge, Dragonhead Stout, Skrimshander, Goachers Best Dark Ale, Gadd's No. 7, Village Bitter, and 49er. The four ciders are Snake Catcher, Cheddar Valley, Old Rosie and the death by apples Biddenden's Dry at 8.0%.

The Chambers "Easter Ales" Beer Festival was a raging success, from the first day to the last. It seems to have taken everyone concerned slightly by surprise, but according to the landlord it will be "at least" an annual event, so here's to the next one...
We started "gently", quite late on the Thursday evening with a selection of ciders, and we filled out the helpful and fun "tasting notes" questionnaire that was provided. Starting with the Moles' Black Rat (6% ABV), we apparently thought it was "yummy". Thatchers' Cheddar Valley (6%) scored a "not as good", Weston's Old Rosie (7.3%) "ooh, bit strong", then the notes become unreadable by the time we had the Biddenden's Extra Dry (8%). This was just the first day. We perhaps struggled slightly because we got there too late to get any food. The place was exceedingly busy from the off, and by the time we found seats the chef had retired for the evening. I recall there was some kind of swing jazz combo playing at some point, and it was quite nice.
The following days saw us work through most of the rest of the menu of beers (highlights being Old Thumper and Dragonhead Stout, also with a musical accompaniment. Friday night saw slightyly trippy blues rock from Sicknote Blues, by the time they had finally got going and the beer had started slipping down, they were alright, though some of my fellow tipplers found them very dull. Saturday night we were at Kapetan Michales (review to follow), and Sunday night saw an indie covers band (Loki I think) giving us the likes of Coldplay, Turin Brakes, Foo Fighters and more. Not wanting to see anything go to waste, and at the landlords recommendation, I ended the festival with a fierce snakebite of Biddenden's Dry and cherry Kriek, which was as sweet as it was strong, not recommended.
The next time there's an event on at Chambers, get there early, and camp out for the duration, you'll love it.
