Damn, tried to beat the system this week, and failed. We went to see David Starkey last night, presenting his new book Henry: Virtuous Prince, part one of his biography. Very interesting, and makes a change to sitting in front of the telly, sort of. I was intending to get a signed copy of the book, knew it would be twenty five quid if I bought it there so ordered it from Amazon for half the price. But it still hasn't turned up :-(
He'll be back next year, will get parts one and two done at the same time. Or, he only lives in Barham, that's on the bus route to Canterbury. We're off that way today, maybe we'll call in.

Went to me first Literary Festival event yesterday, David Starkey's talk at the new academy. It was good! The talk, not so much the academy, it's nice and modernlooking but there is a bit of a prison quality to it.
David Starkey lives round this way, did you know that? He said "nine miles" from where the talk was (Folkestone Academy), so where does that make it? Further than Saltwood which would have been my guess, out in the sticks somewhere. Maybe Etchinghill?

Just been to our first Literary Festival event of this year, Susie Dent, very good though there were a few technical issues. If you're going to David Starkey say, and think you might want to get a book signed by him, why not order it from Amazon and take it along? A massive 50% saving if you do! A little credit crunch tip for you, thank me when you see me...
