"Only" three more series of Lost after this one

I'm still really into it, but don't entirely believe anything the producers of Lost say so will see how this report from Yahoo pans out. Apparently there will only be three more short series of sixteen episodes each of Lost after this one.

Really enjoying recent episodes, but the last one had the most religious overtones of all of them (lookout, that's the latest US episode "The Brig" which you might not have seen). The losties do seem to have been split into "good" people and "bad" people for a while, and Locke wondering off carrying his burden seemed particularly symbolic, but I really really really hope it doesn't end in a Stephen King stylee "ah, see, god did it all".

UPDATE: someone's take, on the popbitch forum:

After mucho rucks and legal posturing, ABC and the producers of 'Lost' have finally agreed to an additional 48 episodes of the show - three, shortened 16-episode seasons, ending in 2009-10. So much, so corn. What isn't perhaps quite so well-known is that there have been a number of rather bitter battles between the network and the Lost Folk for two years about how the fucking thing is supposed to end - more to the point, perhaps, can it end without looking completely ridiculous? Ever since JJ Abrams buggered off to Warners last year, remaining showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have been looking for a way out, on the basis that a) they have enough money and b) no-one knows how to finish the thing and they'd quite like not to have to be there when it fizzles out and everyone goes 'what the fuck?' ABC, for some curious reason, weren't keen for the only people who had any idea of what was going on with its biggest hit franchise to take early retirement, and there *may well* be some truth in the rumours that Lindelof and Cuse have had to draw up a selection of 'this is what could happen' scenarios for the network chiefs to choose from. Tempers were getting badly frayed all round - not helped by the showrunners talking out loud about their desire to get the fuck out of Dodge, and with the terrible two not willing to go to the further three years that the network wanted and an impasse looming, agreement has only been reached by having two years worth of episodes spun out to three seasons. So, we now have some kind of (presumably) half-assed 'solution' to what happens, which makes the ABC suits happy - although it is unlikely to placate the fans - and we're going to be treated to another three (short) seasons of the thing, although whether anyone's still watching by then is another question.

The BBC reports that an Oldham woman libelled an MP from Portchester (where I am from) on Yahoo message boards:

Ms Williams, of Oldham, Lancs, used a pseudonym to post claims that he was a sexual offender and a racist bigot.

Ms Williams had also claimed that the chartered surveyor had sexually harassed a female co-worker, had been charged with soliciting boys and cottaging and that he was a sexual deviant and pervert.

That's just not nice!

In other news, it's a very nice day today in Folkestone, cold again though. We are working our way through The Complete Inspector Morse box set, I am struggling with some (so sorry if any of this site appears slow, I'll move it all off to a test page when I get the chance), and the trains are buggered again for this week's trip up to London, so we have to get a coach.

David Devant and his Spirit Wife

Well the gig was fantastic I'm very glad to report, a homecoming to (now called for some reason), the launchplace of their first album, was somehow appropriate. The place was packed, perhaps partly because of an enormous free guestlist, but there must have been a generous sprinkling of paying punters (like us) too.

A shamelss attempt was made to return to glories past, with Vessel coming onto the stage in silhouette form first of all, but without the fully elaborate painting-himself-real thing. And the stand-in spectral roadies ripped the paper too. They were reasonable lookalikes, but we weren't all fooled, particularly not Iceman who was in the crowd. The balloon animals were a lovely touch, and the instructive illustrations too.

The set was a mix of very new and very old, almost none from the difficult second album "Shiney on the Inside", but a good few early rarities, including my personal favourite "Cookie", also "Slip Into Me", "Life on a Crescent", "Ballroom" and more. The new material all sounds good, get the new album from Outstanding Records, I keep leaving my copy places, so am not entirely familiar with it yet. It's got "Gentleman Jim" on it though, which is ace.

From comments on the Devant yahoo group it seems there were a few more songs on the setlist which weren't played, I'm kind of glad they didn't encore with "Ginger" though. GRATE though it is, that song signifies a point when they were written off by the mainstream music press to me, which is sad. What with all things (OK, just doing well at the moment, hopefully someone will find a way of re-releasing "Asylum", the comedy series that featured the songs of the Devants from about 1996. I heard on the David Walliams website that he was in it too, don't remember him, only Simon and Jessica really.

Anyway, see my pictures of the whole band in action or just Professor Rimschott and here's a pic from Ice-man's phone more later, don't want to spoil you.

Blimey, I only mentioned here once and suddenly I'm getting loads of traffic, is he the new ? BBC says Hann's ready to meet Hicks in the ring! Saw ALMOST get the highest break of the earlier. But not quite, he positioned himself badly on the last pink, did a fantastic pot and left a long but OK black. And missed it, only 127.
