Mark Morriss DJing at Casino Royale this weekend, you can get tickets in advance here...
Uncle Victor has a special guest DJ this week, you can get tickets in advance here, more info at www.casinoroyale.co.uk...
Dear Adventurers
It has to be said I enjoy nothing more than a good wager, particularly after consuming many glasses of a particularly fine brandy at my stately gentleman’s club in London’s St James’ district. It was after one such session, with a young country squire – who, when not lauding it over the commoners, apparently likes to entertain the young people of his parish with his musical combo The Bluetones.
In tribute to my one of my heroes, Phileas Fogg, I challenged the erudite Mark Morriss to embark on possibly the longest tour ever undertaken, around the United Kingdom, comprising 80 gigs in 80 days, with orders to return with a musical souvenir from each town. Always a good sport, and heavily under the influence of the club’s Special Reserve Cognac, Mr Morriss immediately rose to the challenge.
Once the hangover had subsided and he had been released from the local casualty unit, the more sober, yet somewhat bleary, Mark promised to honour the challenge, albeit postponed a couple of days so he could buy a new suit and do his laundry. Once his tour manager and the rest of the band got to hear of the challenge, practicalities reduced the number of dates to 50 over 70 days – largely because there weren’t any more places left that they could have played!
Saturday night marks the successful completion of the challenge, when Mark unveils his musical souvenirs from the tour at the record decks of Casino Royale and provide a taster of the return of his own Rabbit Hole club night.
See you Saturday
Victor
PS
Just to tip you off that whilst 500,000 Guardian readers are huddling under an umbrella in a muddy Somerset field, my trusted "Daddy of the Decks", Joseph will be performing a 7 hour DJ set at the warm and dry Casino Royale on Saturday 28th June and Queen of the Bowlie night, the lovely Hatty will be playing a lip-licking selection of 50’s swingers and french pop on July 5th.

Made a new thing for barfly to allow them to import the reports that Ticketweb send them, detailing punters who bought tickets for Barfly shows, and then allowed their details to be shared by Ticketweb partners, which includes Barfly... should add another few thousand names to the Barfly e-shot. I'm letting them do the import, instead of importing it myself as I have only their word that these are "opt in" names. This way I can track when a name was added to the database, and who buy, and take a guess at what the source is.
