Much drinking yesterday, crawled by the Pint Pot, the Rose and Crown, and the Stoke Tup before our curry at Anglo Asian... wasn't as good as usual, mostly this time because we were sat on the next table to Miles Hunt of The Wonder Stuff, and he and his chum were quite loud and quite dull, I think I know all the musical anecdotes of the midlands now. Still, it's always quite interesting to see a local celeb. Also, although deep down we know this is what always happens, it was quite upsetting to get our tray of chutneys direct from another table, the waiter carried it over from someone else's table to ours, instead of via the kitchen. There was even a drip of the creamy stuff that we never have in the mango chutney. This took the edge off the rest of the meal, and there was no complementary sherry either. The rest of the food was good, but it took the edge off the experience a bit.
Today we're off to Chafford Hundred, via Tottenham and Barking, yes, the annual pilgrimage to an out of town shopping centre to get Christmas presents... normally we'd head to Bluewater, but we're trying Lakeside for a change...

Sort of review. Also, if you're going on Saturday, be aware that the band are on at Eight O'Clock, don't miss out...
Last night I took a trip back in TIME. Just stepped through the doors and it was the early '90s again. Some people at the Forum last night looked as if they'd been in hibernation since then.
Support band Big Yoga Muffin were good, but looked suspiciously like refugees from THAT era... it's only when they played an Eat song, that we realised. More impressive than I ever remember Eat being though.
I'd forgotten just what unpleasant places gigs were in those days, everything had been recreated perfectly. In the days before the NME was full of letters complaining about "knicker wetting girls" being allowed into gigs, there would always be a really nasty group of "hard core fans", near the front either in a circle, or dancing with their backs to the band, and if you get near, you get hit. Nice.
If only I'd ACTUALLY bet my friend that "some sweaty girl will be on someone's shoulders before the next song", I could have made back the extortionate ticket fee.
Anyway, they played Circle Square, Caught In My Shadow, Welcome To The Cheap Seats and a lot more, but I had to leave early, before they'd played the songs I wanted to hear, like Unbearable and Wish away. "Real" fans probably loved it, but I wish the gig had been more compact; I'd forgotten how many songs I never liked. Best bit for me was reminiscing during the retro indie DJ before the gig.
